It's time for another weekly blog where we introduce you to the team members who are part of the team here at the WMMG. This week we're heading on over to our A&R team and feature our very own Gem Donnelly, Artist & Label Liaison here at the West Midlands Media Group.
So let's meet the team with Gem Donnelly.
Meet the Team Gem Donnelly!
How long have you worked at West Midlands Media Group?
I have been working with WMMG since September 2023, I previously worked alongside Daniel & Reece at Devote Radio by providing Broadcast Support to the amazing team of volunteer presenters.
My role within the business is Artist & Label Liaison. My main responsibilities is providing support to Reece with artist relations and being a point of contact between the artists, venues and other mediums we work with. I am also a key team player when organising artist schedules and planning the whole logistical operation when attending studios or gigs.
A lot of my education experience has been in TV & Radio Broadcasting where I have so far completed my NQ, HNC and my HND. In between my responsibilities here at the WMMG I'm in my fourth year studying Media & Communications (BA) Hons.
My media background experience features heavily in radio where I have served as Program Manager for Radio Caley, co-host for Indielive Radio's breakfast show at AJ @Breakfast, whilst also being part of the Assistant Production team.
What do you enjoy most about working at WMMG?
It's got to be most importantly how everyone in the team is so passionate about music, supporting new artists and excited for new happenings within the company and the industry. I absolutely love being around people who have that drive to create spaces for musicians, artists and creating new music.
I love music and the whole gig scene, which makes this job the perfect fit for my skillset personally.
One of my own passions is learning how artists grow their audiences and the impact it has on both the artists and their fanbase through interactions, and seeing a relationship grow between the artist and the audience. I am a lover of the whole process of how a song becomes an idea in someone's head to then it being turned into the real thing that you then start hearing on the radio.
What recent/future changes and development can we expect from your role?
I am really excited to see the new gigs being lined up for new artists we are signing and participating in the planning and arranging, along with continuing to help and support new artists signing to the WMMG in their music careers.
Provide 3 fun-facts about yourself Gem!
Now the interesting part, the three fun-facts about me, pretty easy to be honest;
I used to do stage sword fighting with the targe and the dirk being of choices of weaponry.
I didn't start drinking coffee till the age of 27.
I enjoy open water swimming.
